Antibiotics and antibiotic resistance genes in agricultural soils: A systematic analysis

چکیده

Misuse and overuse of antibiotics have contributed to the rise antimicrobial resistance as one top public health threats. Antibiotics antibiotic genes (ARGs) are prevalent in agricultural soils due widespread application livestock organic wastes. However, information about occurrence, distribution, risk ARGs is lacking for many scenarios. In this study, based on 2225 observations from 135 independent studies, we summarized concentration or abundance under different fertilizer sources land-use patterns, analyzed contributions key environmental factors occurrence soils, highlighted potential ecological typical relationship between mobile genetic elements (MGEs). Our results showed that cattle manure, chicken swine sewage sludge were primary pollution sulfonamides, tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, their corresponding main types. Land-use type, soil, climatic affected ARG abundances. MGEs play a vital role promoting dissemination ARGs, especially sul1 gene closely related intI1. conclusion, our findings future research exploring these topics will contribute better management contamination human health.

Antibiotic Resistance in Agricultural Systems

4 CSA News June 2014 related to ABR, from the development of superbugs like methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) to speculation about the overuse of biocides like triclosan in hand soaps. A report published in 2000 by the World Health Organization (WHO) identified ABR as one of the most critical human health challenges of the 21st century. The report observed that more than two mi...

Plant agricultural streptomycin formulations do not carry antibiotic resistance genes.

Streptomycin is used in plant agriculture for bacterial disease control, particularly against fire blight in pome fruit orchards. Concerns that this may increase environmental antibiotic resistance have led to bans or restrictions on use. Experience with antibiotic use in animal feeds raises the possible influence of formulation-delivered resistance genes. We demonstrate that agricultural strep...

Effect of Treated Wastewater Irrigation on the Proliferation of Antibiotic Resistance in Agricultural Soils

In Israel with its semi-arid climate, water is a limited resource and yet, in the last two decades about 60% of all of Israel’s water resources are directed for agricultural use. This is feasible due to the capacity to recycle water. Treated wastewater (TWW) has become an important source of irrigation water in Israel and other parts of the world due to the pressures of increasing population an...
